World Tree Wellness
My mother’s adventurous nature gave me an unconventional childhood, including the chance to see much of the country from the windows of a VW bus. While I may not share my mom’s wandering spirit, it was her willingness to take the road less traveled that gave me the drive to venture into the world of alternative medicine.
My early training in massage therapy exposed me to the concept of complementary and alternative medicine. The knowledge I gained prompted me to a healthier lifestyle; I switched from fast food to organic whole-foods, and took up yoga.
My passion for learning pushed me to complete my bachelor’s degree in psychology. I also worked at a mental health hospital and witnessed the standard medical care for mental, emotional and physical needs.
I owe many of my positive experiences in hospital care to the amazing and dedicated nurses with whom I worked. Seeing how they managed to bring heart and warmth to an otherwise uncaring clinical environment showed me that medicine is more than just doctors and prescriptions.
Many of my clients saw improvements in conditions such as diabetes and heart conditions from regular massages. As more clients came to me seeking information on what they could do to improve their health, I was faced with the limitations of my training.
This led me to study naturopathic medicine at Bastyr University, where I learned to treat serious conditions by combining standard medical care and alternative medicine. At Bastyr I completed specialty rotations in HIV/immune wellness, cancer care, and worked with low-income populations. I also received additional training in biofeedback, Reiki, and cranial-sacral therapy.
My passion is to continue working with these populations to improve their health and well-being through basic, cost effective means. My philosophy of care is personalized, holistic treatment, incorporating counseling and lifestyle education with conventional medicine.
