Dr. Megan Danz is a family practice doctor treating acute and chronic disease. Megan grew up in Portland, Oregon. She began coming to Alaska from Oregon to work in Denali National Park as a naturalist guide in the mid 1990’s. As a guide, she began to understand the medicinal applications of Alaska’s plants. After completing her Bachelor in Science at Evergreen State College in Washington, Megan moved to Alaska full time and began working with rural villages in the Upper Copper River, Seldovia and Aleutian and Pribilof Islands. Her community-led work encompassed nutrition, local plant uses, toxicology and health education. In doing this work, Megan had the opportunity to document some of the community knowledge for current youth and future generations. Sharing local knowledge of medicinal plants and food with the younger generations was central to these projects. This work inspired her to finally pursue a dream she had had since high school; Megan returned to Oregon to become a Naturopathic doctor.
While obtaining her doctorate at the National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM), Megan was mentored by some of the most respected doctors in the field. In addition to training as a family practice doctor, she has also received extensive training in Wholistic Pelvic CareTM (HPC), Shiatsu massage, Cranial Sacral Therapy, botanical medicine, nutrition, Homeopathy, Biotherapeutic Drainage and Gemmotherapy. Megan is also a certified provider of Low Energy Neurofeedback System (LENS). Neurofeedback is brainwave biofeedback useful for patients with neurological, cognitive, and mood disorders, and for optimizing brain flexibility and self-regulation.
Dr Danz believes that illness and disease affect the whole physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual person. Treatment must thus encompass and integrate all aspects of one’s health. Additionally, she believes the body has an innate ability to heal itself given the proper support. Her goal is to help her patients heal, and ultimately to teach practices that support long-term health.
For Dr Danz, practicing Naturopathic medicine is the perfect mix of science and art. It is a deeply satisfying life-long career that incorporates numerous passions, strengths and interests. Working to find an underlying cause of an illness, and helping people become stewards of there own health and vitality is deeply rewarding.
Dr. Danz lives in Palmer with her husband and two children. When not practicing medicine, she is hiking, biking, skiing, harvesting and wildcrafting, gardening, cooking, and playing with her family.
Dr Danz is a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians and the Alaska Association of Naturopathic Physicians.
