Dr. Luciano Garofalo is a naturopathic physician, integrative medicine researcher, and Tacoma-lover. In addition to clinical practice, he is a postdoctoral research fellow in complementary and integrative health at the University of Washington, with a focus in child and family wellbeing. He is thrilled to provide evidence-based, holistic care to children, adolescents, and families at PSFH.
Dr. Garofalo prioritizes building relationships and collaborating with patients/families in their medical care. Using conventional and natural treatments, he aims to meet a patient or family’s goals with whatever resources are available to them. He is skilled with infectious disease, integrative mental health, gastrointestinal disorders, skin disorders, sports medicine, sexual/reproductive health, and herbal medicine. He loves discussing immunization with families who want to know more about the benefits and risks, and he loves working with teenagers.
Dr. Garofalo received his medical degree at the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, OR, where his clinical training was focused in holistic primary care and community health. Before medical school, he worked 2 years as a scribe with emergency medicine and orthopedic physicians, seeing 6,000+ patients. He is passionate about health equity and undoing structural racism. The overarching goal of his research is to protect the health of vulnerable populations through innovative models of care that highlight natural therapies and prevention.
He and his wife are proud to raise their two children in Tacoma, where they met when working in the L’Arche Tahoma Hope community. His hobbies include astronomy, music, and biking.
