“Natural forces within us are the true healers of disease” - Hippocrates
As a naturopathic physician, I am continually amazed at how well the body is able to heal itself when the right conditions are provided. The tricky part is finding out what those conditions are and how to attain them. I believe in working with the foundations first: adequate hydration, healthy foods, movement, restful sleep, and a sense of safety and purpose. From there I add in other tools if needed to help patients not only achieve relief from their symptoms but to find the root cause of their disease and to achieve optimal wellness. Some of my favorite tools include but are not limited to craniosacral therapy, visceral manipulation, herbal medicine, homeopathy, biofeedback, and hydrotherapy. Simply put, I follow this guiding principle: get rid of things that are getting in the way of health, add in the things that help to nourish it, and then let the body do the rest, providing support and care along the way.
“Treat the whole person” – Naturopathic principle
My previous background is in ecology, where I got to see firsthand the complexity of ecosystems and how each individual component is fundamentally connected and dependent upon the whole. This concept drives my work as a naturopathic physician, recognizing that each patient contains a complex ecosystem that is influenced by mind, body, spirit, and community that all function together in a way unique to the individual. My job is to figure out how all these pieces interact and influence a patient’s health and how to get all the pieces to work together in a way that promotes optimal wellbeing. Therefore, I focus on treating the person rather than the disease. There are no “one size fits all” treatment plans in my office. Rather, I work with patients to find a customized treatment plan that fits their unique physiology, lifestyle, and needs. Because of this, I enjoy working with all patients, no matter their symptom picture. I also have a special interest in stress related conditions, from anxiety to gut issues to high blood pressure and everything in between, if it’s worsened by stress, I am here to help!
