Dr. Eric Hughes graduated from Bastyr University with a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine. Prior to graduate school, he received a B.S. in Basic Medical Sciences and minor in French from Washington State University. In addition, he has 7 years of experience from coaching CrossFit and has received extra training in various modalities including: Revolution In Motion, Stecco Fascial Manipulation, Kinesio Taping I & II, and Electrons Plus Guided PEMF, and MindBody Medicine/Biofeedback.
Growing up, I definitely wasn't the healthiest kid on the block. Throughout grade school, my days were packed with fast food and video games, and it had gotten to the point where I was an overweight pre-diabetic 18 year-old kid, and just not happy. My lifestyle had caught up to me, and I realized what the kind of road I was traveling down.
As soon as I entered college, I wanted to make a change. I started learning more about nutrition, exercise, and overall how to live a healthier lifestyle. This led to countless hours of reading books and listening to podcasts every day, soaking up as much information as I could. From there, I had also learned about CrossFit, which took everything to the next level. In this environment, I could grow with a community that thrived on support, determination, and simply wanting to be better all around.
I eventually started coaching, which lasted for 7 years. That time was an amazing experience, where I was able to work with people from all walks of life on a daily basis with as much drive and passion as I had. It was truly fulfilling to see how much time and dedication my clients had put into improving physically and mentally, and to be able to share their successes together.
Combining my fitness background with Naturopathic Medicine has provided me great insight in working with others on a professional level. I now have the ability to work much more in depth with my patients, and reveal aspects about their health beyond diet and lifestyle that they might have not taken into account. Moreover, I can provide treatments and therapies that I have used in the past -- tools that I know work, and will serve to achieve my patient's health goals much more efficiently and effectively.
