Description

I wish I could say it’s been a lifelong dream of mine to become a doctor, but that is far from the truth. Having a very logical way of thinking and solving problems and excelling in math, I intended to follow in my dad’s footsteps and become an engineer. One year into my undergrad, however, I quickly realized this was not the right path for me. I hated sitting behind a computer screen, having minimal human interaction.

I decided to switch gears, and change my major to biology with a focus in pre-med. I was looking forward to my future as a doctor. My last year of undergrad I started an internship at a hospital ER. I had the opportunity to experience first hand all the excitement that went into saving lives. I’ll admit, I half expected this experience to look similar to Grey’s Anatomy, where every physician was passionate about connecting with their patients, going above and beyond to have a meaningful impact on their lives. It didn’t take long for me to learn this was not reality. Most of the interactions I witnessed involved brief conversation, minimal eye contact, and a quick fix. It seemed as if many of the physicians had become cynical and desensitized, leaving little room for empathy. I was extremely discouraged and found myself conflicted as to whether or not I should attend medical school.

Worried I would succumb to the same cynicism; I decided to explore alternative routes that would allow me to have a more empowering impact on people’s lives. Through a Google search, I stumbled across Naturopathic Medicine and instantly resonated with everything I read. It felt as if a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders and I finally knew exactly what I wanted to do.

A few months later I was in the suburbs of Chicago attending National University of Health Sciences. There, I learned methods to support the body’s innate healing ability, through modalities such as diet/nutrition, nutritional supplementation, herbal/botanical medicine, homeopathy, functional medicine, hydrotherapy, mind-body medicine, and more!

I am now excited that I can apply what I’ve learned and pass that knowledge along to my patients. My goal is to provide my patients the opportunity to tell their story, feel heard, and empower them to take control of their own health. I strive to get to the root cause of ailments, supporting healing rather than suppressing symptoms. I am passionate about natural health, and inspired by the powerful changes I’ve seen it make in the lives of my patients.”

Christine Conti, Naturopathic Doctor, graduated from Oakland University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology. She then attended National University of Health Sciences (NUHS), earning a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine, and graduating Suma Cum Laude and valedictorian of her class. Christine currently holds her Naturopathic license in the state of Vermont and is a member of the Michigan Association of Naturopathic Physicians (MANP).
