Abigail Seaver, ND, has owned and operated her Naturopathic medical practice since 2004. She specializes in helping women heal their digestion and balance their hormones to feel their best.
Dr. Seaver started her career working very closely for seven years with Patricia Ammon, MD, a pioneer in Integrative Medicine. In addition to her practice in Ridgway, Colorado, she sees patients once a month at DCMH Family Medicine in Delta, Colorado. She speaks to the public on many topics including Menopause, Digestion, Inflammation, Cancer, and Bone Health.
Dr. Seaver received her undergraduate degree in English Literature from Hamilton College in Clinton, New York. She then completed her pre-medicine education at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. She went on to earn her doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington. She is currently a member of the Colorado Association of Naturopathic Doctors.
I grew up in a health-oriented family. My mother has always been interested in nutrition and dietary supplements. She cooked a lot of our food from scratch and grew a vegetable garden every year. I learned a great deal about nutrition, gardening, and cooking from her.
Despite such a healthy upbringing, I suffered on and off from stomach aches starting at an early age, and my digestion worsened in my late teens to include gas, bloating, and irregular bowel movements. Around the same time, I developed an unhealthy relationship with food. Like many young women in our culture, I wasn’t happy with the way my body looked and sought to control it by strictly limiting my diet. This made my digestion worse and limited my nutrient intake. After struggling with this through college, I searched for a career that would encompass my interest in health and nutrition and maybe help me to heal as well. When I found Naturopathic Medicine, it seemed like a perfect fit.
In my Naturopathic training, I learned many strategies to heal the mind, body, and spirit. My health improved, and I started a practice in a lovely mountain town in Colorado. Everything seemed like it was going pretty well until after I had my son. About two years after his birth, I struggled with severe brain fog and fatigue. I chalked it up to sleep deprivation but decided to run a food intolerance test on myself anyway. The results were eye-opening. I started avoiding the foods that came up as severe intolerances on the test and almost immediately started feeling better. My digestion improved, and the brain fog and fatigue completely resolved. I subsequently also treated myself for yeast and bacterial imbalances in my intestines, and my digestion improved further. Now it is rare for me to get a stomach ache unless I eat the foods I have significant reactions to or am under a lot of stress. I have strategies to get my health back on track if I stray off course.
Over the 15 years I have been in practice, I have treated hundreds of patients with similar symptoms to mine, as well as many other health conditions. My goal is to identify the underlying cause of your symptoms and address it using natural strategies such as diet change, nutrient supplementation, herbal formulas, and homeopathic remedies. Rather than multiple doctor’s visits resulting in a different pill each time you come in, I empower my patients to gain the knowledge to heal themselves and to maintain their health over time.
I invite you to start the journey to becoming the most optimal version of yourself. You have the choice to make changes that will affect your health for the rest of your life. Let’s partner together to reach your health goals so you can go out into the world and do what you are meant to do!
